Right now, my personal power consumption is 404 Watts. This includes my computer usage, my fan/air purifier, and my two lightbulbs. It doesn't include space I use in my coop's refrigerators. I would estimate that this is pretty average for me each day. It's certainly not bad, but I also don't generate any of the energy myself.
That averages out to 9.7 kWh of energy that I use every day. If I estimate using emissions for the typical US electric company, this is at least 6 kg of CO2 that I create every day just from my energy use. (To calculate this, I used an online tool available here.)
So, how many trees would it take to suck up this amount of CO2 each day? An average tree only absorbs 0.027 kg of CO2 each day, so this means I would need at least 219 trees to support my energy consumption. That's scary!
